As we bid goodbye to 2017, I reminisce how it has been transformed into a landmark year. We witnessed the historic introduction and continuous streamlining of the various new legislations, the revised Curriculum for our students and other socio-economic events which ensure that we are keeping abreast with the ever changing and dynamic environment.
The month of November saw many events for members and students. These WIRC events have touched upon various aspects from updates, peer interactions to exploring professional opportunities.
An event on ‘Vigilance Awareness Week 2017’ was organised at WIRC and attended by top Government officials and important stakeholders. This event was graced by Dr. T. M. Bhasin, Vigilance Commissioner; Shri P. C. Mody, Pr. CCIT, Mumbai; Shri G. Mahalingam, Whole Time Member, SEBI and Shri Subhash C. Varshnay, Principle CC-GST, Mumbai.
The ‘Regional Banking Summit’ was hosted by us at Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Gateway of India, Mumbai. This event saw various luminaries from the banking sector. The Guests of Honour at this event were Shri R. Subramania Kumar, CMD, Indian Overseas Bank and Shri Dinabandhu Mohapatra, MD & CEO, Bank of India. Topics of practical relevance coupled with academic updates were featured in this well conceptualised interactive summit.
Our industry specific seminars and conferences were focused on a wide range of pertinent topics. These included seminars on Valuation, Forensic Audit, Concurrent Audit of Banks, Media & Entertainment, UAE/Dubai VAT and Information Technology, to name a few. At the seminar on the 'Pharma Industry', CA. Sudhir Valia, Executive Director, Sun Pharma interacted and shared his inputs with the participants.
The TDS interactive programme was organised and attended by our members in large numbers. The meeting was graced by Smt. Anuradha Bhatia, CCIT; Shri Pratap Singh, Pr. CIT; Shri V. K. Gupta, Pr. CIT and Shri Aashish Pophara, Addl. CIT. We are thankful to the respected officers for their presence and interaction with our members.
WIRC hosted the ‘Felicitation of New Members & Rank Holders’, where the new members were welcomed to the ICAI family in the presence of their parents. Here, CA. Saurabh Deshmukh, IAS, Asst. Director General, Ministry of Communications, Government of India; CA. Uttamprakash J. Agarwal, Past President, ICAI and CA. B. C. Jain, Past Chairman, WIRC, were present to felicitate the new members. I am thankful to the dignitaries for inspiring our students to strive and achieve the best in the profession and keep the flag of ICAI flying high with pride and dignity.
We pay homage to Late CA. Madan Mohan Chaturvediji, Past Chairman, WIRC, who left us for his heavenly abode. He was the epitome of commitment and served the profession with great dignity. Our prayers are with his family to give them strength in this time of grief.
WIRC office bearers visited Ahmednagar, Ichalkaranji, Kolhapur, Pimpri Chinchwad, Ratnagiri, Satara and Sangli Branches and also interacted with the Chairman of Karad Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., Karad. It was heartening to know that we are on the right track to overall WIRC growth via growing our Branches in terms of infrastructure, education and support.
