"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom."
- Jawaharlal Nehru
On August 15, 1947, India achieved independence from British oppression. The day holds national pride and honour in the heart of every Indian citizen living in India and abroad. This day is the culmination of the efforts of the thousands of freedom fighters who fought for decades so that we would enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Today, we are not oppressed and don’t have to fight for our freedom however, at this moment we should recall the words of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who said, “Every citizen of India must remember that he is an Indian and he has every right in this country but with certain duties.” These are the words that all Chartered Accountants must hold close to their hearts to transform into genuine partners in nation building.

We should contribute to the growth of our country by doing something good that would benefit the country. Here, I ask each and every member to remember the words by U.S. President John F. Kennedy, “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.”
